Step-by-Step Guide to Disable Windows 10 Automatic Updates

Windows 10 is a popular operating system, but one of the most frustrating aspects for users is the automatic updates that can occur at inconvenient times. Thankfully, there is a way to disable this feature and regain control over when updates are installed.

Follow these simple steps to disable Windows 10 automatic updates:

  1. Press the Windows key and the R key on your keyboard simultaneously. This will open the Run dialog box.
  2. Type “regedit” into the Run dialog box and click OK. This will open the Registry Editor.
  3. In the Registry Editor, navigate to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Policies Microsoft Windows”.
  4. Right-click on your Windows partition and select “Create > Partition.” Name the new partition “WindowsUpdate”.
  5. Right-click on the “WindowsUpdate” partition and select “Create > Partition” again. Name the new partition “AU”.
  6. Right-click on the “AU” partition and select “Create > DWORD Parameter (32 bit)”. Name the new parameter “NoAutoUpdate”.
  7. Double-click on the “NoAutoUpdate” parameter and change the value from 0 to 1.
  8. Restart your PC to apply the changes. Windows 10 will no longer automatically install updates.

By following these steps, you can regain control over when updates are installed on your Windows 10 machine. This can be particularly useful if you are in the middle of an important task or if you simply prefer to manually install updates at a more convenient time.
